The 1% Better Everyday Challenge

living your best life mental health personal development

Did you know you can do small things and change your life in big ways? It’s true.

In fact, this one thing can change your life.

What is it?

Just get 1% better every day. Push yourself incrementally; just a little bit every day.

That's the habit that I'm asking you to think about today.

1% better every day, over a year, would be 37.78% better next year than you were this year.

I'm not going to pretend and act like I knew how to estimate compound interest. I had to use a calculator. But what I am going to tell you is that I've been applying this principle to my life and I know it’s true; we can continue to grow, to stretch, to get better today than we were yesterday by doing small things every day.

Conversely, guess what? If we don't want to get better every day, we can do nothing. But there's no such thing as just “kind of” staying the same. We're either moving forward, or we're slipping backward. You get to choose. Instead of coasting and doing nothing, why not push yourself? Go ahead and say I can push myself. I can push myself just a little bit. I can get better.

Now, I don't want to imply you need to beat yourself up, you're not a piňata! You don't need to take a stick and start beating on yourself to get better. There's no judgment in my words, no shame here. Besides, words of shame aren't helpful.

I want you to think about the fact that… well… actually, you do have a piňata in your life, something that does need to be beat out of your way. And it's not you. But it is something holding the treasure that you seek; that mountain in front of you, that mountain that's intimidating and looming over you. It looks unscalable, an insurmountable issue that you need to conquer. A mountain you must somehow get around, and you feel overwhelmed by the amount of effort, energy and focus that you’ll have to apply to get past it.

And maybe the mountain is an ultimatum in life like, “I have to do this thing,” and you feel stressed and pressured.

How about applying the 1% rule: Just beat it one tiny whack every day.

Do you know what would happen if you went outside and hit that piňata once or twice every day? Eventually that pinata will break open; that roadblock will crumble, that mountain will move.

Just think I can do 1%.

How would your life change if you made improvements in your

  • health goals
  • finances
  • growth and development
  • relationships
  • social life

It isn't the quantum leaps that lead to success. We think that it's what we do in these big massive leaps. No, it's what you do on a consistent basis, a little bit every day, that's going to bring you to the winner's circle. And that's where you need to be! You need success in your life as a midlife woman.  It's not Quit- time it's Go- time.

You can reinvent what midlife looks like, to think about what you want to do with the rest of your life and where you want to go.

But if you don't keep pushing yourself, if you don't have a plan for your growth and development, you’ll be like a tumbleweed blowing your way around the desert.

With a strategic plan and goals to help, you can determine where you want to go in life and how you’re going to get there. Of course, the plan can shape and morph and change.

But moving forward is what it takes. If you don't do that, you're going to go backward, you're going to lose territory.

And to me that's what average is; it's people who have given in to mediocre, they've just given up on life, they don't want to push themselves anymore. They don't want to dig down deep and find that self-discipline.

Here are just a few things that statistics talk about what the average person struggles with when they stop growing;

  • wake up late everyday
  • they don’t read, wont’ read
  • they watch too much TV
  • waste time and wont chart their time
  • don’t write things down
  • don’t commit to goals
  • wait for motivation
  • they become sedentary
  • they don’t give time, talent, or treasure
  • are in debt, because they spend more than their income
  • are a few to several pounds overweight and won’t do anything about it.

What about you? What's your goal? What do you want to do? How do you want to go about it? When do you want to start? What can you do? Can you just do one thing that just moves the needle 1% better?

It's all you have to do.

If you're not sure about that, I can help you let's do some coaching together.

Jim Rohn says, “In 5 years, you will arrive.”

Yes, you will arrive. The question is where will you arrive? That's yet to be seen.

And it's largely up to you. Do you want to arrive in the winner's circle? Do you want to be a contender in the ring? Do you want to be strong and toned and fit and alert? Do you want to be successful? Having earned income wealthy and entrepreneur?

Where do you want to be?

Or do you want to be more out of shape, much more out of touch with skills, lacking purpose, feeling depressed and unfulfilled?

NOT YOU

If you don’t succumb to average behaviors, you’ll be anything but average!

Try this instead…just applying a small step.

  • Get focused
  • Find your self-discipline
  • Have a powerful morning routine – successful people wake up early
  • Read
  • Be a lifelong learner - don’t stagnate, find ways to grow and learn
  • Limit your TV watching
  • Discover and use your gifts and natural abilities and use your talent to bring joy, help and encouragement to others

Eleanor Roosevelt said it this way, “When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.”

And Winston Churchill said, most people die at 25 but they’re not buried till they're 80.

Don't let that be you. You're going to keep going you're going to be in the winner's circle.

I want to push you to become 1% better. I want to push you to say. Hey average mediocre, I'm not going to live that kind of life. I'm going to love my life. I'm going to design a life that I adore and that I wake up excited about.  Curious is going to be my new lens through which I look. I'm going to get out of the box. I'm gonna start thinking about what else is out there. How much can I grow?

Motivate yourself, shake-off of the mundane, wake up and become fully alive because God's got greatness for you!

I'm cheering you on. I want you to be in the winner's circle. And here's what I'm gonna do to bless you this week. I want to give you my free download of My Top 10 Growth and Development Books not that I've written but that I read. These books have changed my life I want to give them to you.
